We already know that when it comes to food and drink in Bristol we are TOTALLY spoiled. We are lucky to live in such a vibrant city of hospitality and variety, and it’s about time everybody else started recognising just how amazing it is here. Luckily, some of our venues and producers have been awarded some high accolades of late, and we wanted to shout these out from the rooftops.
Award: No. 1 Chef in the UK
Winner: Peter Sanchez-Iglesias
Bristol born and bred Pete Sanchez scooped this amazing recognition last year from The Good Food Guide. He owns and runs fine dining hot spot Casamia, alongside Michelin Star rated Paco Tapas and the more casual Pi Shop. How lucky are we to have the best chef in the country on our doorstep. Mic drop.
Award: Three Great Taste Stars
Winner: Swoon Gelato
I mean, we already knew that Swoon was the best! But now they have also been nationally recognised by the illustrious Great Taste for four of their gelato flavours. These include their Neapolitan coffee, pistachio and hazelnut gelatos, plus its chocolate sorbetto (one of Nat’s faves). All hail Swoon!
Award: Independent Cider Retailer Of The Year
Winner: Bristol Cider Shop
The Bristol Cider Shop was recently awarded Independent Cider Retailer of the Year at the prestigious Drinks Retailers awards, fighting off tough competition in the process. We love that this small but awesome Wapping Wharf crate came out tops, and if you haven’t checked out their amazing local cider selection or booked yourself onto one of their fun cider tastings, why not give them a go.
Award: No.2 Gastro Pub in the UK
Winner: The Pony & Trap
Our mate Josh Eggleton and his team recently scooped the title of the 2nd best Gastro Pub in the UK – GO TEAM! If you have been out to The Pony, you’ll agree its easy to see why this award is well deserved. From the cosy and comfortable authentic pub atmosphere, to the wonderful staf and most importantly, the fantastic food. Situated within the beautiful surroundings of Chew Magna, this pub is one not to be missed.
Award: Best Speciality Cheese Retailer

We love Rosie and we love her cheese! So were were really happy to see The Bristol Cheesemonger pick up this award. Rosie was shortlisted alongside 8 other delictasseans at the prestigious ceremony, and came up triumphant. If you are a cheese lover like us, make sure you get down to Cargo and pay Rosie a visit.
Award: Restaurant of the Year – Asian Food Awards
Winner: Urban Tandoor
If you have never enjoyed a curry in this restaurant, then you need to change this right quick. Our hidden gem Under Tandoor was awarded the best restaurant in the UK last year at the first Asian Food Awards. We love this understated yet contemporary curry house, who offer all the classics but also some with a slight twist. Our go to is the guinea fowl jalfrezi, simply delicious.
