If you are single and hate Valentine’s Day clap your hands?
It seems that at this time of year, you can’t turn left or right without seeing over the top cards, the restaurant special set menus or the cringey Instagram posts aimed at ‘this one’. STOP.
Make it stop.
If you are alone this Valentine’s, then don’t fret. You’ve got your guys and galdems right? Who else do you need?! We’ve listed a few places that you can go to forget all the loved up couples of the city (and just get drunk if you want).
Tarantino Soundtrack Night at Edit
Address: 239 Cheltenham Road, Bristol BS6
There will be no special set menus or time allotted tables at Edit Bar this Valentine’s, just a delicious selection of Asian small plates which are perfect for sharing with friends. This new stylish bar on Gloucester Road also boasts a state of the art sound system, which will be playing soundtracks from two of Tarantino’s cult classics; True Romance and Jackie Brown. This relaxed atmosphere is a great spot to enjoy some cocktails or sample the menu. Our tip? Make sure you order the fried chicken dumplings – you’ll definitely fall in love with them.
Dinner & Deadpool at Bristol Spirit
Address: 86 Whitehall Road, Bristol BS5
Does Valentine’s Day for you mean sitting down with a film and drinking a box of rose to yourself? Well, why not switch it up this year and head to Bristol Spirit for their dinner and deadpool evening. A good comedy teamed with pizzas from the gods that are Mission Pizza and paired cocktails from the fantastic Bristol Spirit team. Take a mate, your family or yourself and chill out with some laughs and lovely slices.
Mid Week Mac at The Urban Standard
Address: 35 Gloucester Road, Bristol BS7
Nothing says I love you quite like cheese right? Is there a stronger love between human and food? Get your gang down to The Urban Standard for their mid-week mac; an evening where you can choose from a selection of their seriously delicious pimped up mac ‘n’ cheese dishes and ultimate dirty mac fries. There promises to be no talk of moving in together, getting married or having babies – just eating cheese and drinking beer until your heart’s content. We love the Urban Standard.
There are plenty of other venues in Bristol for you to drink the singledom pain away or represent your independent spirit if you don’t want to stay at home with that M&S meal for two – that you know you’ll just gobble up yourself.
Teaming with casual, quiet bars and more upbeat venues – you can take your pick of the bunch here. Enjoy a catch-up in relaxed surroundings such as The Gallimaufry, or grab your housemate and chow down in casual The Industry Bar or The Bristol Flyer. Head to Stokes Croft for a bit of late night action (we mean dancing people) by popping into The Love Inn or 51’s.
The Old Bookshop is one of our favourite spots on North Street and is perfect to pop in for a few quiet drinks and a good chinwag or gossip about who you currently have got your eye on, or the latest Tinder match. Failing that, North Street Standard promises to deliver a relaxed atmosphere as does The Steam Crane and The Hen and Chicken.
There is lots of choice in the centre, and you can still pop down there whilst avoiding Valentine’s Day. King Street is always one of the best places to grab a bite with mates and indulge in some beers. Choose from Kongs, The Volunteer, The old Duke and King Street Brew House. Oh, and 3 Brothers is down that way, celebrate with burgers.
Get your fried chicken fix from the team at the new Happy Bird site, whether you are eating in and enjoying their playlist or cluckin’ and collecting. Pop into Flipside with your girls or guys for some cheeky cocktails (who knows – your friends might like their friends etc…) there is also The Burger Joint, Bar Humbug, The Penny and Steam to gather the troops and celebrate everything great about being single.
