One for the Gin heads!
Learn more about this splendid spirit in a fascinating masterclass on its most popular serving incarnation, the gin and tonic.
Discover what gin is, how it’s made and hear some of its long and illustrious histories – from time as a medicinal remedy, through ‘mother’s ruin’ and sailing the high seas up to the present day craft boom and popularity among a new generation.
We’ll also take a look at tonic, it’s origins and importance on the world stage throughout modern history, and sample a number of different styles with a look at how they would interact with different gins.
The group will taste a diverse range of gins, from traditional and classic styles to some more modern, including a delicious locally distilled gin, pairing each with a different tonic or mixer.
We’ll give top tips as we go on things like building the ‘perfect serve’, choosing the right tonic, garnish choices, glassware and gins to suit different occasions. Along the way, we’ll take a look at the different botanicals used to flavour the spirit as well as some different production choices and how they impact on style and flavour.
An experienced and friendly gin tutor will be on hand to present each gin and answer any questions as we go. A couple of cucumber sandwiches will be provided to nibble on, too (to keep in the spirit of things!).
